Winter Classic Jerseys

Since the Flyers were chosen for the Winyer Classic game, fans have
anxiously been waiting to see the unique jersey that they'll be wearing
that night. The jersey consists of a darker orange color that the flyers
wore back in the 1980's and gets complemented with off-white and
black stripes. The flyers logo and colors is one of the most recognizable in all of sports and this jersey will be sure to make many sales and attract many eyes.

Phantoms and Bears Move It Outdoors

On a day following the flyers match up against the rangers outside at Citizens Bank Park, the Phantoms will have their chance playing outside against the Hershey Bears. These two teams have consistently been top teams in the AHL in the last ten years and they are rival teams. A game like this will help to publicize the AHL, which is basically the league prior to the NHL. Popular players such as Claude Giroux and Mike Richards are former AHL players. This should be a game that will thrill and be remembered.

Jagr Made the List!

For the first time since 2008 Jaromir Jagr made the All Star Ballot under the fan voting category. He is one out of 127 potential players that fans can vote for to see play in the All Star Game; hosted this year by the Ottowa Senators.

The NHL has now made the ballot open to fan across the world by providing the option of voting in the following languages: English, German, French, Czech, Finnish, Russian, Slovak and Swedish. This will now allow fans around the world to vote for their favorite players. This could be a big boost in Jagrs votes because of the years he spent playing in the KHL, in Russia. It will be interesting to see how many people will support a former KHL player trying to win a spot in the NHL all star team.

The other Flyers who will be joining Jagr on the ballot are: Danny Briere, Claude Giroux, Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, and Ilya Bryzgalov. Be sure to support these Flyers and vote for them at www.NHL.com/vote the polls close on January 4th and the game will be played on Sunday January 29th.

Coburn for another couple of years

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 6-5, 220-lb defenseman Braydon Coburn to a multi-year contract extension, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

"We are happy to have Braydon under contract,” Holmgren said.  “He is and will continue to be a big part of our defense corps."

Coburn, 26 (2-27-85), is in his sixth season with the Flyers.  He was acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Alexi Zhitnik on February 24, 2007.  In 355 games with the Flyers, Coburn has recorded 26 goals and 83 assists for 109 points, along with 313 penalty minutes and a plus-32 rating.

In 54 playoff games for the Flyers, Coburn has scored two goals and added 14 assists for 16 points, along with 49 PIM and a plus-4 rating.

Coburn was drafted by Atlanta in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Jagr Tells Reason for Coming to the Flyers

Jaromir Jagr joined the Flyers organization this year after spending three years playing in the Kontinental hockey league in Russia, but he said he chose Flyers for a reason. Jagr tells that although he will not reveal the identity of individual, there was one person who was the deciding reason to come to the flyers. The only info he reveals is that this person lives in the Czech Republic, and is the only other person who knew what teams in the NHL Jagr was talking with. Althought the identity was not revealed of the person who influenced him; here in Philadelphia we are glad he is here. Younger team members say that the 39 years olds preperations and dedication are incredible. The work ethic is starting to rub off on some of the players Giroux was quoted saying "But when he came here he was the one that worked the hardest and gave the young players like me and van Riemsdyk a wake-up call to see that if we wanted to be one of the best we had to work at it, that it wasn't just going to come." Hopefully his hard work ethic pulls off throughout the season.
